Getting started
with Kazoku Nikki

From installing the app to joining your family, just press the buttons from the top down. It takes about three minutes, and you don't need to know anything technical.

Q. What should I know before I start?

Kazoku Nikki is an app for sharing your family's plans, chores, photos, videos and diary — only with the family you invite. You install it from the App Store exactly like any other app.

  • Free to start. The core features are free to use
  • All you need is an email address and a password
  • Photos and videos are encrypted on your device before they're stored
  • You can delete it whenever you like, just like any other app

How to get started

  1. Install the app from the App Store

    First, install Kazoku Nikki from the App Store. It's exactly the same as installing any other app.

    1. Press the button below to open the Kazoku Nikki page on the App Store
    2. Press "Get" to install it (it's free)
    3. Once it's installed, come back to this page

  2. Open the app and create an account

    All you need is an email address and a password.

    1. Choose "Sign up" — if this is your first time, go to "Sign up (create an account)"
    2. Enter your email address and a password — any email address you normally use is fine. It's worth noting the password down somewhere safe
    3. Check the invite code field — if your family sent you a code, check it's in this field (type it in if it's empty). You can sign up without one
    4. Press "Sign up"

    From then on, just choose "Log in" with the same email address and password. If you forget your password, you can reset it from "Forgotten your password?" on the login screen.

  3. Enter the confirmation code from your email

    When you sign up, a numeric confirmation code is sent to the address you entered. Type it into the app and you're done. If you signed up with an invite code, you join your family's group straight away.

    1. Open the email from Kazoku Nikki in your mail app
    2. Type the numeric code it contains into the app

    If the email doesn't arrive, check your spam folder. If it's still not there, make sure the email address wasn't mistyped and try sending it again.

Inviting your family (if you started first)

Kazoku Nikki is meant to be shared with your family. Here's how to invite them.

  1. Send an invitation email from the app — go to Family settings → Invite family, enter their name and email address, and send. They receive an email with a link to this page and an invite code, so all they have to do is open the link and follow the steps above
  2. To send it another way — under "Active invitations", "Send invitation" shares the same message and link through any app you like
  3. Send a new one if it expires — invite codes have a time limit (usually 60 minutes) and a maximum number of uses. If yours has expired, create another invitation

Worth knowing: installing from the App Store is how you get the app; the invite code in the app is how you join the family group. They're two different things — but the invitation email the app sends contains both, so sending that is all you need to do.

Common questions

Is it really free?

Yes. The core features are free to use (as of July 2026, every feature is free). The App Store download is free too. In future we may offer some features as a paid plan, or show adverts.

Can I use it without an invitation from my family?

Yes. If you sign up without an invite code, a new family group is created for you. You can invite your family later from Family settings → Invite family.

My invite code has expired

Ask whoever invited you to send another invitation. From Family settings → Invite family they can send a fresh email with a new code straight away. If you've already finished installing the app (step 1), you don't need to do that part again.

Does it work on Android?

Sorry — for now it's iPhone and iPad only (iOS 17 or later).

How do I update the app?

You can leave it to the App Store's automatic updates. When a new version is out, the app tells you when you open it, and you can update from there.

What if I want to stop using it?

Delete it like any other app — press and hold the icon on the home screen. If you also want your account and data gone, use Settings → Delete account and data in the app (you can export your data first).
